Smart search with article in multiple categories

I need an extension that allows me to:

Search by category (as BT Smart search does)

Assign more than one category to an article (I need to know which extension that can do this AND work with BT Smart search)

The end result we want is to offer smart search and be able to assign more than one category to an article.
